Nebraska Democratic Party chair says she will not run for governor
LINCOLN, Neb. —
Speculation over a possible Jane Kleeb for Governor campaign can now be put to rest.
In a joint statement with the Vanessa Ward for Governor campaign, the Nebraska Democratic Party confirmed the Bold Nebraska leader will not challenge Pete Ricketts in the fall.
Ward plans to formally announce her candidacy in Omaha next week.
The full statement can be found below:
The Ward for Governor Campaign, supports Chair Kleeb and the work she is doing to build the party throughout the state of Nebraska. The Nebraska Democratic Party welcomes Vanessa Ward and the over 70 Democrats that have put their name on the ballot across the state. Chair Kleeb is not running for Governor and is focused on building the state Party and electing Democrats up and down the ballot. We look forward to the various Democratic primaries including the gubernatorial race and other races. The Nebraska Democratic Party and Ward for Governor Campaign both realize the hurt that many middle class and working families are feeling under the Trump and Ricketts administration. We look forward to hearing from voters from across the state on how to end the one Party rule in Nebraska.
