Nebraska legislature vote on whether to raise penalties for sex trafficking crimes
Senators will take a final vote on whether the state should strengthen penalties on a number of crimes such as human trafficking.
In a proposal by Senator Patty Pansing Brooks, adults could see a year to 50 years behind bars.
Sex trafficking offenses involving a minor would be five to 50 years in prison.
Senator Pansing Brooks says stronger penalties are needed to deter trafficking.
If the bill is not passed by Tuesday, it will be sent to the governor's desk.
