One cat dead in late night Kearney home fire
A home in Kearney’s Countryside trailer park was ruined after a fire broke out late Sunday night.
Kearney firefighters said smoke was shooting out the door when they arrived.
The fire was out within minutes, but not in time to save all the owner's animals.
"Some neighbors got some of the animals out. And then we were able to get the rest of them out. All of them except for one cat survived," KVFD Fire Chief Jim Tacha said.
Chief Tacha said the fire started in the kitchen because of smoking materials that were on top of paper.
