Patriot Park opening soon in Kearney
KEARNEY, Neb. —
A new nearly $9 million ballpark is opening soon in Kearney.
Patriot Park is located at 45. E. 56th Street, with the grand opening set for May 25 at 5:30 p.m.
The park will provide more space for athletes to play and bring more visitors to the community as well.
It has four baseball and softball fields and has been in the works since 2015.
Parks and recreation director Scott Hayden said there was a shortage of fields for teams to play and practice.
Hayden said the new park is a great way to bring kids together and bring more money into the community.
"Really, what we tried to do is build a quality park that will last this community for many years, meet the need and allow people to have fun," Hayden said.
A restaurant tax voted on by the community, sales tax money, donations and sponsorships all helped fund, Patriot Park.
