Power slowly returning to homes after blizzard
UPDATE: Nebraska Public Power says power has been restored to the Ogallala area.
UPDATE: Southern Power District reported all customers have power as of 10 p.m. Sunday.
UPDATE: Nebraska Public Power District has restored power to Atkinson as of 5:50 p.m. Sunday.
ORIGINAL: Power crews are out working through their Sunday to return power to homes in western and central Nebraska after a blizzard hit the area.
At 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Nebraska Public Power District said they still had 1,150 customers without power in the Atkinson, Butte, and Ogallala areas.
The company said they were bringing portable transformers, generators, and additional equipment to start the work towards restoration of power.
At around 1:30 p.m. NPPD reported a new outage affecting 777 customers in Aurora, with a total of 972 without power across the area.
Southern Power District reported they were down to about 350 residential customers without power as of 2:40 p.m. Sunday.
Southern PD said their outages were mostly in Hamilton County near Aurora and Hampton. They also said they were working with NPPD to bring those customers back in service as well.
Southern PD is urging customers to report new outages by calling 800-579-3019.
Loup Valley Public Power reported 200 outages as of 8:40 p.m. Sunday.
Dawson Public Power District said power was restored to residential customers at of 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The company has sent a construction crew to help Custer Public Power District, headquartered at Broken Bow.
