Redistricting bill stalls in Neb. legislature
LINCOLN, Neb. —
An attempt to redistrict Nebraska was passed over Monday.
Lawmakers debated LB 1115, which could change voting districts to exclude non-citizens.
It was introduced by Senator John Murante.
Monday, Senator Tony Vargas said he worried this would impact his own district.
"Are we going to start to screen people that are coming in here and trying to advocate on behalf of bills? And, it's like, no you can't because you're not a citizen. You don't have a voice. And, I think that's a really dangerous place to go," said Sen. Vargas, District 7.
