Six children injured in Christmas event crash in Clay Center
CLAY CENTER, Neb. —
Six children were injured in a crash at a Christmas event in Clay Center on Wednesday.
According to the Clay County Sheriff's Department, emergency personnel and officers responded to a crash between a 2003 Buick SUV and shuttle carrying the children at 6:50 p.m. at the Clay County Fairgrounds.
Police said the SUV crashed into the side of the trolley-style shuttle, injuring six children. Their injuries ranged from bumps and bruises to broken bones and deeper cuts. The children were transported to Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings in five ambulances from Clay Center, Harvard and Fairfield. All but one child was released from the hospital, who was expected to undergo surgery.
No drugs or alcohol are suspected in the cause of the crash, and neither driver was arrested or cited. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
