Grand Island Public Schools is pleased to announce Sheree Stockwell has been hired as principal at Jefferson Elementary, replacing Jeanna Randall, who is retiring.

“Mrs. Stockwell has been a valuable leader for GIPS, so we are thrilled to have her as principal at Jefferson,” said Dr. Tawana Grover, GIPS superintendent. “She will continue to provide instructional leadership for our staff.”

Stockwell is currently assistant principal at Barr Middle School. She has spent her entire career with GIPS, starting as a middle school ELL teacher at Walnut and Westridge before becoming a learning facilitator and administrator at Barr in 2013. Before teaching, she was also a paraprofessional at Seedling Mile Elementary and an afterschool program supervisor at Dodge Elementary.

“Not only do I enjoy working with all kids of all ages, but I also enjoy working with teams of people to help students be successful,” Stockwell said. “Being a part of Jefferson is great opportunity to add to my experiences. I bring a unique perspective of what it takes to prepare elementary students for middle school and the next steps in their education.”

Stockwell will fill the position vacated by Randall.

“Mrs. Randall has been a strong leader for the Jefferson community,” Grover said. “Her leadership through the bond process and preparing for the transition have been incredibly valuable. We wish her well in retirement.”

Stockwell was attracted to the Jefferson position because of their caring and diverse community.

“They have great momentum with helping students be successful in all areas,” Stockwell said. “They embrace our GIPS mission of teaching ‘hearts as well as minds.’ I can't wait to be a part of that. With the new building, Jefferson is evidence of community's commitment to quality learning environments and helping students grow. I am proud to be a part of the tradition of excellence we have, and I look forward to helping it continue.”
