Task Force 1 ready to start search and rescue efforts
Nebraska Task Force 1 is in Florida, ready to begin search and rescue efforts.
On Saturday night, the team of 80 was in a safe location in Florida waiting for Hurricane Irma to pass.
Made up of Nebraska firefighters, doctors, engineers and more, the task force will be working long hours over the next several days with hope of saving lives.
They said nothing compares to having the training, equipment and opportunity to help disaster victims.
"It's a sense of self-fulfillment. I think even thought you might be working long days in obscure environments, not having all the creature comforts we have at home; it's that fulfilling aspect of being able to make that difference," said Battalion Chief Brad Thavenet of Lincoln Fire and Rescue.
The task force just completed a deployment in Texas following Hurricane Harvey.
While in Houston the team said they were able to complete life-saving missions.
