A 14-year-old is dead after a crash on Interstate 80 near Elm Creek.

The Nebraska State Patrol said a Honda Accord ended up under a semi-truck after the driver failed to yield while merging into eastbound traffic around 2:20 p.m. Thursday.

Rachelle Kort, of Mitchell, was killed, according to NSP. They said she was wearing a seat belt.

The driver, 23-year-old Abigail Okoye, was taken to CHI Good Samaritan Hospital. The patrol said she wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the semi has been identified as Drew Davis, 37, of North Carolina.

The crash closed eastbound Interstate 80 at mile marker 263 until just before 5:00 p.m.

An autopsy has been ordered. The Buffalo County Attorney said no charges have been filed at this time. The investigation into the crash continues.
