Whiteclay task force visits village
A Whiteclay task force made its first trip up to the village last weekend.
People and organizations met to look into public health problems at Whiteclay.
The listening sessions were held by Senator Patty Pansing Brooks and Senator Tom Brewer.
Lakota activists have said 80% of their families suffer from alcoholism.
Last month, the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission voted not to renew liquor licenses at four stores there. The stores are fighting the ruling.
Senator Pansing Brooks said things have already changed drastically.
“We are on the verge of making additional historic change here in Whiteclay, and I am truly blessed to be able to play a role in this process,” she said on Facebook. “The outpouring of ideas, support, and dedicated individuals has been overwhelming, and I am greatly looking forward to working together moving forward in this endeavor.”
