Ricketts names Syracuse farmer to be state ag director

New NDA Director Steve Wellman (Governor's Office)

Saying the state needs to continue growing agriculture, Gov. Pete Ricketts has named a new ag director, to replace Greg Ibach who took a position with the USDA.

Steve Wellman of Syracuse will run the Nebraska Department of Agriculture. Wellman grows corn and soybeans and has a cow-calf herd.

Wellman has been involved in state and national soybean organizations.

"We're going to have a grow Nebraska team," Ricketts said, praising Wellman for his role in trade issues.

"We want to bring additional value to our product here and grow markets," Wellman said.
