Athlete of the Week: Brady Holtmeier
Kearney Catholic senior Brady Holtmeier, a senior wide out/running back/any other position the coach wants to put him at, had a game to remember.
Kearney Catholic took care of business on Friday against Mitchell. At the forefront was this week's Athlete of the Week, Brady Holtmeier.
"He's not going to overpower you, he just has the right mix and balance of it all -- power, speed, vision, feet. You know he will do whatever it takes to get that first down or that yardage that we need," said Rashawn Harvey, Kearney Catholic football coach.
The senior carried the ball 11 times for 153 yards and five touchdowns in the 49-14 victory, while also registering five tackles on defense.
"It's kind of about just getting to that second level and then once I was there having that burst of speed, getting through those defenders at the end. And then we had a couple of short yardages and the line just had some really good pushes, couple of yards and that was good enough to get in to the end zone," said Holtmeier.
Holtmier has played numerous positions for the Stars, making it difficult for opposing teams to shut him down.
"We can hide him in certain spots, put him at receiver, put him at running back, put him at quarterback. But he runs hard and he reads blocks really well. He's got great balance, great feet and great vision which makes him an asset all over the field," said Harvey.
Last season was the first time in 12 years that the senior class at Kearney Catholic did not end their careers in the playoffs, something that is burned into the minds of seniors like Brady Holtmeier as well as head coach Rashawn Harvey.
