Gebbia shines in spring, likely not playing in 2017

Tristan Gebbia (14) breaks the pocket and rolls right for the white team, April 15, 2017, at the Huskers annual Red-White Spring Game (NTV News)

Memorial Stadium flirting with a sellout at the annual Red-White Spring Game, as it was the first real display of the future quarterback situation in Lincoln.

While Tanner Lee and Patrick O'Brien battled it out on the Red team, early enrollee freshman Tristan Gebbia stole the show, hitting on 28 of 45 passes for 268 yards.

Expect the spring game to be his last appearance until 2018.

"Right now, what he is headed for is what Patrick (O'Brien) headed for a year ago," said head coach Mike Riley. "We would like to redshirt Tristan, but we only have four quarterbacks right at this time, so at this time he would be that guy that would get some repetitions with our offense that's going to play in the games, he would ready himself to be the third–string quarterback, and we would hope that he would not play."

Riley says he was impressed with Gebbia in the spring game and made a lot of plays.

In the fourth quarter of the annual spring game, Gebbia moved to the Red team, allowing Andrew Bunch to take a few snaps.
