Nebraska baseball sweeps Rutgers in walk-off fashion
Nebraska treated the fans at Hawks Field to a show on Sunday, as the Huskers defeated Rutgers 7-6, courtesy of a walk-off single by Luis Alvarado.
" I had an at bat before that and I struck out", said Alvarado. " I wasn't feeling that good today or really all weekend. The mentality I had was, just put the ball in play, not do to much and I was successful in the end. It's great feeling standing on first knowing that you won the game and seeing all the guys run onto the field."
"Our guys just kept fighting", said head coach Darin Erstad. " They gave us a punch there, it could have been a knock out blow. But our guys kept it together and found a way. Alvarado I mean that guy quite honestly doesn't even know what he's doing at the plate right now. He doesn't feel very good but just to stay disciplined and keep fighting and keep battling you get rewarded when you do that."
Luke Roskam went 3/4 at the plate for Nebraska, while Jake Meyers went 7 innings on the mound, tossing 6 strikeouts and scattering 9 hits.
The Huskers will play rival Creighton on Wednesday in Omaha at 7:00 pm. The game will be televised on the CBS Sports Network.
