There's a saying that goes, good things come to those who wait. Former Husker safety Nathan Gerry's patience paying off as he holds the honor of the first and only Husker player taken in the 2017 NFL draft. Ending a 54 year streak of Nebraska having multiple players selected in the draft.
The next time Nebraska fans see Gerry on the gridiron, he'll be donning the green and white of the Eagles. Philadelphia selecting the South Dakota native in the 5th round with the 184th pick overall. There is a plot twist to this pick. Philly announcing that Gerry will play linebacker for the Eagles instead of strong safety where he played on the Blackshirt D. Gerry was 2nd on the team in tackles last year with 74 while also totaling 4 interceptions. For his career, he's tied for 6th all–time in tackles with 273, 19 of those for loss, and snagging 13 interceptions.
