Nebraska survives scare in Champaign

Nebraska held off a late charge from the Fighting Illini to beat Illinois, 80-72 , Wednesday night at the State Farm Center.

Leading 70-58 at the 6:33 mark of the fourth quarter, Illinois got to within two points on two occasions, including a 74-72 deficit with 58 seconds left in the game. Illinois (9-10, 0-5) remains win-less in Big Ten games.

A Hannah Whitish three-pointer with 31 ticks on the clock was the proverbial back-breaker. Whitish scored 20 points for the Huskers on 6-of-11 from downtown and a 50-percent effort shooting from the field.

Nebraska (12-5, 3-1) won its sixth straight road game (6-0 on the season) and third of a three-game swing away from Pinnacle Bank Arena.

The Huskers are back in Lincoln Saturday against Michigan at 7 p.m. and it can be seen on BTN+ (a subscription service).
