The event will be held in conjunction with Blue & Gold Welcome Week on Saturday, August 23rd, from 8:00-10:00 p.m. at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field. Admission is free; activities will be moved to Cushing Coliseum in the event of inclement weather.
From 8-9:00 p.m., fans will be able to engage in a Fan Day atmosphere with interactive games hosted by the Loper athletes. Loper teams have been paired up with some of Kearney's finest supporters, who will be in attendance handing out prizes to all participants. Fans who participate will have the opportunity to win great prizes from businesses such as Runza, Little Caesars, the YMCA of Kearney, Wells Fargo, The Antelope Bookstore, Qdoba, Cellar Bar/Grill, and the Big Apple Fun Center.
The National Guard will also be on hand, along with the Antelope Artillery, providing exciting interactive games and inflatables which are more youth based. During this time, fans can engage with and get autographs from all Loper coaches and athletes.
From 9-10:00 p.m., fans will enjoy a "Pep Rally" which features a performance by "The Pride of the Plains." Teams and team captains from the fall sports will be introduced as Head Coaches Darrell Morris, Rick Squiers, Brady Bonsall and John Maessner address the crowd and preview their upcoming seasons.
Runza Lopers Under the Lights enters its ninth year of existence after being recognized as the winner of the 2011 National NCAA Division II Community Engagement Award of Excellence. This award honors a school whose program or event builds the most effective bridge between athletics and the community. The event typically draws 1200 students and community members.
"We are excited to give our student athletes the chance to meet other students and community members who support them as fans. This is our way of giving back to those who watch Loper Athletics," said UNK Assistant Athletic Director, Shawn Fairbanks.
