UNK Back with a Strong Defense

UNK linebackers catch running back David Goodwin in the back field.

Just two and a half weeks from kick–off of Lopers football. Many new faces on the offense, but defense returns with experience.

Including Elm Creek native Jake Bartling who saw some action in the starting line–up.

Making three tackles behind the line of scrimmage for a loss of yards.

After losing all MIAA Linebacker Tyke Kozeal, the Lopers return six linebackers from 2016.

Who had a new offense to face at UNK's fall scrimmage, but stepped up against their run game, and racking up three sacks.

"All of our inside linebackers are doing a good job filling that void," head coach Lynn said. "Another thing that's been a good solid strength for us is our defensive line. Tye Spies, Jacob Bartling, and Spencer Cook," Lynn continued. "They're doing a good job of keeping offensive linemen off those linebackers."

Looking back at their spring scrimmage, Loper seniors see progress heading into the season. That's got senior George Brown having confidence in his defense.

"Today everybody was fitting up everything right and getting everybody down the right tempo," Brown said. "Our linebackers stepping up tremendously a lot of sophomores and juniors at linebacker right now and they're tackling tremendously good right now."

The Lopers kick off their first game August 31st against Missouri Western State.
