UNK Volleyball: Lopers 9th in AVCA Poll


Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team is ranked ninth in the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Top 25 preseason poll.

Last year, UNK went 28-7 and finished the year ranked eighth.

The Lopers received 783 points to be one of six Central Region teams in the top 10. Seven-time defending national champion Concordia-St. Paul is No. 1 with Tampa second. The CSP Golden Bears tallied 1,186 points and 39 of the 48 first place votes.

Other Central teams in the poll are Minnesota-Duluth (3rd), Central Missouri (5th), Southwest Minnesota State (7th), Washburn (10th), Wayne State (20th) and Northern State, S.D. (21st).

NSU comes to Kearney Sept. 5-6 as part of the New Victorian Inn & Suites/Runza Volleyball Classic. The Lopers and Wolves play the tournament’s final match (Sept. 6th at 7:00 p.m.).

This marks UNK’s 266th week in the AVCA poll, the fourth most behind only UCM (358), Tampa (342) and UMD (283).
