C9 district track meet sees Wood River girls, GICC boys win

The Wood River girls were able to hold down their home territory and win the team title over Arcadia/Loup City by 41 points, Thursday at the C9 district track and field meet.

Grand Island Central Catholic captured the boys title with only 14 points of breathing room above St. Paul.

The girls pole vault saw the 2016 Class C runner-up, Madison Myers from Grand Island Central Catholic (formerly Centura), earn an automatic berth of her finding the podium again.

Addison Henry, of Arcadia/Loup City, spins through to gold with a throw of 148 feet, 3.0 inches in the girls discus event.

Wood River's Jocelyn Rauert beats her teammate,Cyd Huxtable, by half a second, winning the girls 400 M dash with a time of 1:02.2.

The boys fastest lap belongs to Grand Island Central Catholic's Wyatt Gleason, burning home in 52.5 seconds. Dawson Caspersen was .7 behind.

It was a spectacular race in the girls 4x800 M relay. Doniphan–Trumbull, Gibbon, and Arcadia–Loup City were all within 10 meters for the entire race. At the end, the Cardinal four were victorious in 10:12.1.

The boys 3200 M relay did not provide nearly as much excitement. St. Paul got out to a big lead and it only expanded from there. The Wildcats getting to the line in 8:40.1 to win it.
