Hastings Tigers return to the diamond

Hastings High is playing baseball for the first time in more than 75 years (NTV News)

For the first time in over 75 years, Hastings High is fielding a baseball team.

Hardball returning to the school after it was approved by the Board of Education back in 2015.

A large number of Tigers gaining most of their experience through the Legion baseball league in Hastings.

"Our guys have been around baseball," said head coach Blake Marquardt.

Even though the program is in its first year of competition, the Tigers are expecting to win plenty of games in Class B.

"They've been around me before and I think they know that regardless of what year it is or the time of year beginning or end we still expect the guys to go out there and compete at a high level and hopefully win a majority of our games this year," Marquardt says. "I think the guys know that we're expected to go out and give it our best shot to win every game."

Hastings opening up the season on the road Thursday at Norris. Their home opener is Saturday against Lincoln North Star.
