"In our meets, we go against the best competition," said head coach Pat McFadden. "We've gone against the Lincoln Southwests, the Omaha Norths, the Millard Wests. We feel like we've seen all the teams that are going to be the most competitive at the state meet. We draw a lot of confidence in that. We draw a lot of confidence in our individual selves. We also draw confidence in our team selves."

Kearney High winning the state championship by the slimmest of margins last year. The Bearcats defeated Millard South by 1.5 points.
