Kearney - Kearney Runza putting up some massive numbers at the right time of the season, averaging close to eleven runs per game their last seven times out.

With the district tournament coming up, Kearney is hoping they aren't peaking too soon.

"The kids have certainly hit the ball well the entire year which is good to see," head coach Brad Archer said. "The old adage in baseball is good pitching beats good hitting.

"There's a lot of games we play this year over the course of the summer where you might be seeing someone's 4 or 5 pitcher and they're matched up with your 1 or 2 pitcher that makes a difference but when you get into the district and state tournament, you're going to see people's number 1 and 2 pitchers."

Kearney going for a 12th straight district trophy this weekend.

Runza begins their title defense against North Platte at 4:00 p.m. on Friday at Scottsbluff. Kearney scoring eight times against the First Nationals in their two previous meetings. They are the 2 seed in the A–7 district. Hastings Five Points is no. 1, and gets the first round bye.
