Another Nebraska office besides that of governor hasn't changed leadership for the past decade: attorney general.

But on Thursday a new person was sworn in as the state's lead law enforcement officer.

Doug Peterson took his oath of office at the Capitol.

The former assistant to another attorney general, Peterson is coming out of the private practice sector, but says he has been working with outgoing AG Jon Bruning's office to make the transition a smooth one.

“It's been neat to see so many friends, family come together and support the campaign and then today is kind of the culmination of all that with the swearing in ceremony, so we've got big duties to do,” says Peterson.

Those duties include working with lawmakers on legislation. Peterson says two priorities are human trafficking and working with the County Attorney's Association on some of their proposals.

“The Attorney General's Office has a separate division, just law enforcement and working with county attorneys, and they're very busy, they're very good at what they do and so we'll continue to make that an emphasis for the office,” he says.
