The Archway and the Nebraska Firefighter's Museum may be separate entities, but they share many similarities including proximity, local history and low traffic volumes.
Both museums are within walking distance from each other, but the temporary closure of the Archway has also hampered foot traffic at the Firefighter's Museum.
Officials say the winter weather has had an impact on tourists and it's too soon to tell if the new exit has helped, but they're hopeful a shared focus will help both places.
"We hope to make it a location that families or visitors interested in history can see a little bit of history both there and here, different types of history, both related to Nebraska," said Nebraska Firefighter's Museum Curator Kriste Behlmann.
Behlmann hopes new highway signage will help increase the image and traffic from east- and westbound interstate travelers as well.
REPORTER'S NOTES: Officials at the Nebraska Firefighter's Museum are offering an adult discount coupon for admittance with a receipt from the Archway during this weekend's re-opening. Museum weekend hours are 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
