Squirrel Causes Sunday Morning Power Outage in GI
An early morning power outage left more than 2,400 Grand Island customers in the dark on Sunday.
Grand Island City Utilities Director Tim Luchsinger says the outage in the western part of the city lasted for just over half an hour.
Crews checked a substation first, then traced the problem to an area around Old Highway 30 where a squirrel had gotten into equipment and was electrocuted.
Someone in the area reported hearing an explosion, and police tweeted that some traffic signals were out.
Power was restored just after 8:00 a.m.
