YRTC Escapees Lead Deputies on High-Speed Chase Through York County

Two escapees from the Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center in Geneva are back in custody following a high speed chase through the rain Monday night.

The York County Sheriff's Office was notified from officials in Fillmore County that two girls had escaped the facility and stolen a pickup in Geneva. A chase ensued when a deputy spotted the pickup driving through McCool Junction.

Speeds during the chase reached up to 100 miles per hour but deputies backed off as they neared the York interchange.

Authorities say the pickup hit a vehicle at a stop sign before heading eastbound on Interstate 80.

By this time, it was dark with heavy rains. There was another collision, this time with a tractor trailer, but the suspects kept going.

Finally, the chase came to a close after a deputy hit the pickup. The girls took off on foot but were later apprehended.
