Kevin Cheng prepares for his piano concert on Sunday

Kevin Cheng said he is playing a piece that has only been performed in Europe at his concert on Sunday.

KEARNEY, Neb. — Kevin Cheng has a show on Sunday, October 15. It is a way to advertise for his big event in Central City in March.

Cheng said he is playing a piece that's only been performed in Europe.

"The first one on the program will be Mozart piano concerto number 20 in D Minor and that's the theme in the movie Amadeus," said Cheng. " The second one we'll be playing is mendos in piano concerto number 0."

Cheng said he was inspired to play the piece because of its tune.

"I was fascinated by that music. It has a lot of syncopation which means every beat is on the second beat of the beat," Cheng said.

Three different compositions will be played at the concert on Sunday.

"Only the first two will be accompanied by the string quintet. I cannot afford an entire symphony orchestra on this one, so I just have a reduced version of it. The last one hymnal I will play on my own," said Cheng.

Cheng said it took a lot of effort for him to get the written music order from Germany.

"Pretty excited about playing that because I know I am the very first one on this continent to play it," Cheng said.

The show on Sunday, October 15th is at First United Methodist Church in Kearney at 7 p.m.

Cheng said he will have a full-blown orchestra in Central City during his show on March 4th. He does not have a set time or place yet

Both concerts are free to the public.
