"Sisters for Soldiers" is what they are calling it and these sisters are looking out our troops.

Alpha Omicron Pi sorority at UNK is sending care packages to soldiers overseas.

The ladies of the sorority invited people in the community to join them to send different items to soldiers.

This is something they do annually, and their goal is to show support for the troops.

Handwritten letters, goodies and a lot love in one box.

"As a military mom myself, to see the young women for military personal, I so appreciate it," said Veteran and Military Services Assistant Director Lori Weed Skarka

For Katelyn Archer, this event hit home. Her dad was once one of the people getting these packages.

"There's people that don't get to see their families and they can't be in constant contact with the ones they love, and just to have that sort of comfort and that moral support there and knowing that hey these people are here for you even though you may not necessarily know them. That's a big thing," Archer said.

The girls wanted to make sure each box had something in them the soldiers could use like sunflower seeds, chap-stick and word puzzles.

"Different people come up to you and be like, 'I received one of you guys' care packages, It meant the world to me.' Like just getting that is like the best feeling in the world," said Alpha Omicron Pi Philanthropy Chair Devyn Crisman.

Miss Nebraska 2017 Allison Tietjen loaded up a box. Her platform is "United we stand, honoring the military."

"I truly believe that we live in one of the greatest countries on this earth and that's because of the men and women who serve our country," Tietjen said.

As of right now, they will be sending out 225 boxes, but people can still donate items.

They want to send everything over to arrive close to Christmas time.

First, the items will be shipped to Texas to Soldiers Angels, an organization that will then distribute the packages overseas.
