Outdoor Files: Trout stocking around the state
Good morning. March is known for a lot of things. Basketball tournaments, bird migrations including those cranes but also trout stockings around the state.
Over 30 city ponds or waters near communities will be getting rainbow trout between March 10th and 19th. Most of this schedule is next week and you can see the expected stocking times in a recent news release dated February 27th. Go to our webpage OutdoorNebraska.org. At the bottom of the home page click on Press Room & Media to scroll through news releases including our trout agenda.
The archery paddlefish season is the month of June. But the application period to possibly draw a permit is on now through Wednesday March 14th. To apply, stop into a Game and parks office, find the form in the current fishing guide booklet or take care of it online at OutdoorNebraska.org
A couple of items in parks news: Mahoney State Park now has a new restaurant operator in the Kiewit Lodge. Caddy’s Parkside Grill. It is open 11-9 daily. It will also cater park events like weddings, reunions and corporate outings. They plan to have holiday buffets.
And the oasis known as Rock Creek State Recreation Area in the southwest corner of the state is getting a new boat ramp, parking area and vault restroom complex. Some draw down of the lake will occur after ice out for this construction. The project is expected to be done by the end of May.
And I would again remind novice turkey hunters of 6 free instructional workshops around the state later this month. First one is March 17th at the Mid Plains Community College in McCook. See the schedule, register at OutdoorNebraska.org/workshops.
