Another storefront closes in downtown Kearney
Another business is closing on the bricks in Kearney.
The Funshine Shop officially closed on November 21, according to its Facebook page.
The store sold mostly antiques, collectibles and furniture.
Over the weekend, the mother, daughter owners held a final auction. A post said the sale was pushed back a week due to a snow storm.
The storefront is available for rent, and the property owner says he's looking to help a business thrive in the space.
The closure follows several announcements of closures downtown, including the Creative Teacher, Solid Rock, Pet Kingdom, Refind and The Country Nest.
However, according to the City's finance director, these closings aren't always a bad thing.
"We always hate to see businesses close in Kearney," said Wendell Wessels. "We understand that they have to make their own business decision and downtown Kearney has been a good place to do business, and it seems like when one business leaves, somebody else moves in. So, you know, we're optimistic that that's going to continue and keep Kearney's downtown vibrant."
According to the property owner of the funshine shop, there's already interest in this space.
