Bellevue OKs bid to demolish councilman's eyesore car wash
BELLEVUE, Neb. (AP) —
The Bellevue City Council has voted to accept a bid to tear down an eyesore car wash owned by a fellow member.
The Omaha World-Herald reports the council voted 5-0 Monday to accept a more than $15,000 bid to demolish the car wash. The vote came over the protests of owner and fellow Councilman Pat Shannon. As he's done in previous meetings regarding the property, he initially resisted calls for him to recuse himself and leave the room.
The council first approved the demolition months ago of Big John's Car Wash, which has long sat in disrepair. Residents have complained of debris and standing water there.
Shannon has said the city's call for him to fix the car wash or see it torn down is a political attack.
