BIG SPRINGS, Neb. — A Big Springs man has been charged with sexual assault of a child following an investigation by the Nebraska State Patrol.
Joel Foster, 37, of Big Springs, is charged in Deuel County Court with two counts of first-degree sexual assault, one count of sexual abuse by a school employee and two counts of committing intentional child abuse-no injury.
NSP said the investigation began this week, when troopers received information that an employee at South Platte Public Schools in Big Springs had had inappropriate contact with a student. On Thursday, an arrest warrant was issued for Foster as part of the investigation and he was arrested Thursday afternoon.
An affidavit detailing the case is not listed in court records. However, a complaint outlining the charges says the alleged incident occurred between Jan. 1, 2022, and Sept. 14, 2022, and involved one 16-year-old child.
It is unclear what Foster’s position at South Platte Public Schools was. The district’s website does not list him as a staff member as of Friday morning.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Foster’s bond has been set at 10% of $500,000. His next court date is not listed.
