Community Rallies Behind Family Coping With Loss and Illness

Arapahoe residents and people from neighboring communities came together this weekend to help a family coping with illness and loss.

Throughout a day-long benefit they helped a family whose five-year-old recently died of a rare cancer and who two other children currently in an Omaha hospital.

The Maddie and the Twins Family Benefit was put together in only two weeks by people who just felt the need to help.

“I actually know the grandmother to these kids, did not know the kids at all, but the story touched me and my wife's life and it pretty much had my heart since then. I think everyone's gonna come away with the same thing – they did a lot of things to help a family in need,” said the benefit's organizer James Taylor.

Saturday's benefit included a poker run, silent auction and a pancake feed.

Funds will go towards funeral, medical and travel expenses.
