OMAHA, Neb. — A Cozad man accused of passing fake bills at various locations in central Nebraska will spend time in federal prison.
Officials said Bruce Nelson, 54, was sentenced to three years in prison for counterfeiting U.S. currency.
In August and September of 2020, Nelson passed fake $100 bills at locations in Elwood, Alma and Holdrege.
On September 7th of 2020, officials said authorities served a search warrant at a home in Orleans where Nelson had been staying.
During the search, police found fake $20, $50 and $100 bills, along with paper clippings or cutouts consistent with printing counterfeit money.
Officials said the serial numbers on some of the recovered bills matched those that were passed by Nelson, who later admitted to authorities that he had been counterfeiting money.
