Update: Parts of I-80 back open after fiery crash
Interstate 80 is back open after a fiery crash near Odessa Sunday morning.
According to the Nebraska State Patrol, two semi-trucks were involved in the incident that happened about 8:50 a.m.
Troopers said the crash was weather related. The Nebraska Department of Roads reported icy roads in the area.
Witness Scott Tustin told NTV the “road was complete ice” when he left his vehicle to call 911. Tustin said at least twelve semi-trucks were on the side of the road near the Odessa exit at the time.
The situation “got scary fast,” he said.
No injuries were reported, according to the patrol.
I-80 traffic headed west was detoured at the Kearney exit. The interstate opened back up there just after noon, according to NSP.
NDOR also reported westbound I-80 closed near the Gibbon exit Sunday morning for a separate incident. It has since reopened.
