STRATTON, Neb. — In Stratton, multiple people were rescued by boat as waters swept through their community.
In McCook, flooded streets had drivers at a crawl. To the west, rushing waters forced Stratton residents to evacuate as they said water filled their homes.
Jody, a Stratton resident, said water levels got so high they reached her chest; That's when she knew she had to get out.
Three separate boats of local heroes stepped in to rescue five residents from four different homes, however one was left behind; Jody's dog.
For hours she was distressed as she and her husband thought because of the high-water levels in the trailer, her dog Lily didn't make it out alive.
Hours later in a pair of waiters, a local who didn't want the credit stepped up to see if the family was right.
As he made his way through knee high water, Lily's owner waited in anticipation to see what was going to come out of that front door. Moment later, there was a break in the storm clouds for the family.
Lily was alive and well and hiding in the back of the trailer
She was handed over to her dad.
It would be some time later before mom learned the news.
The family has a long road ahead with flood damage but they said they were so happy to have Lily back and safe.
