State Fire Marshal Investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed several pieces of farm equipment on Oct. 15.

Clay Center Fire Department and Sutton Fire Department responded to reports of fire in a rural Clay County cornfield.

A loss estimate has not been determined.

The fire marshal said the investigation remains ongoing.

Farmer Jonathan Rempel told KRVN that it happened in a very rural area.

Many on social media have suggested the fire was politically motivated. According to KRVN and the Rural Radio Network,Rempel avoided making a political connection, but did confirm that his combine was flying two flags in support of Pres. Donald Trump.

Many farmers across Nebraska have been flying "Make America Great Again" flags in support of the president's re-election campaign.

Friends of the Rempels said they are planning a harvest bee to help following the loss.
