Former Nebraska U.S. Senator Ben Nelson has been talking about his new book, "Death of the Senate: My Front Row Seat to the Demise of the World's Greatest Deliberative Body".
Nelson said the Senate is in trouble because too much power is being given to party leaders, but it isn't quite dead yet.
"At best it's on life support because the inability to come together and work. Now, there are some efforts underway, but I don't know how significant they are in terms of numbers," said Nelson. "If you can't count votes in D.C., you're in La-La Land. So if the votes are there, and they can come together, then we'll see the Senate resuscitated. But the way it is right now, it's on life support."
Sen. Nelson's book comes out on September 1.
