Former YRTC teen arrested in Lincoln, accused of stealing four cars
A 19-year-old man is in custody after police said he stole four vehicles in June and July.
The Lincoln Police Department arrested Tyrone Kometscher Thursday on one misdemeanor and three felony theft charges, following a string of vehicle thefts in the area.
The thefts included the following vehicles:
- A Blue 2006 Dodge Caravan was stolen on June 20 and recovered on July 3.
- A Tan 2001 Buick Regal stolen on June 24 and recovered on June 29.
- A White 2001 Honda CRV stolen on June 29 was spotted by police on June 30 and the driver was identified as Tyrone, who fled from officers after a traffic stop was initiated near 10th and G Street. The vehicle has not been recovered yet.
- A Green 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor was stolen on July 3, spotted on July 5 and followed by investigators. Kometscher was taken into custody a short time later.
Kometscher was arrested in 2017 after being identified as an escapee from Kearney's Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center. Police said he and another escapee were suspects in a string of vehicle thefts in Lincoln during their time on the run.
