Grand Island City Administrator Marlan Ferguson is set to retire on Mar. 1, 2019.

The new assistant administrator for Grand Island, Brent Clark, will start this week in preparation for Mar. 1.

He was introduced to the city council last Tuesday and is already set to meet with the Veteran's home his first week.

The mayor says the assistant position opened for a smooth transition in the coming months.

"On March 1st of 2019, he will switch over to city administrator upon the retirement of Marlan Ferguson. That's very important because we don't have time for down time," said the Grand Island Mayor Roger Steele.

The assistant administrator says he is looking forward to learning as much as he can from long time city administrator .
