With big competition comes a lot of nerves but members of the Bluejay Marching Band said they’re letting their nerves fuel their focus to perform big at the Harvest of Harmony Parade.

They have a lot of freshman in their band this year who are working hard to catch up to the upperclassmen.

“They’ve definitely stepped up to the plate,” said senior Kaia Johnson.

They have two things that really make them stand out across other bands. The first is their energy and spirit.

“A lot of the underclassmen brought up a lot of that energy that they had in junior high band that’s just molded into how awesome we’re doing,” said junior Jadyn Taylor.

The second thing is Tatum; their secret weapon and favorite fan.

She practices walking with the band, twirls her own flag and keeps everyone excited and motivated.

And Band Director Barbara Ellis said watching her students perform is one of the best parts of her job.

“It’s our last competition of the year which is also a bittersweet moment because you are also giving away your seniors, it’s their last time doing it,” said Ellis.

Because of their hard work and dedication to the band, they said they’re confident in their routine for the Harvest of Harmony parade.

“As long as they give fourth their best effort, I’m really proud of them regardless and I know they are trying their best and they have been so I’m really proud of them for this year too,” said Johnson.
