Kearney man heading to district court for sexual assault

KEARNEY, Neb. — A Kearney man accused of sexual assault is heading to district court.

Buffalo County Court records say Steven Schmidt Jr., 20, faces two counts of first degree sexual assault.

KEARNEY MAN CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT

If he is convicted, he faces up to 100 years in prison.

Details of the alleged crimes are not public but court records do say they happened between April and September of 2021 when Schmidt was 19 years old and the victim was 15.
