Kearney Sears Hometown unaffected by cuts as store moves to mall location
Sears announced that they'll be letting go of 200 employees, including 150 at their corporate headquarters.
Sears Hometown in Kearney recently moved from north of town to the Hilltop Mall and they said the decision made my corporate won't affect them.
Just a couple weeks ago, the Sears Hometown contacted the mall inquiring on the empty space next to Old Navy, and now they're all moved in.
But in a letter to employees last month, Sears CEO Eddie Lampert wrote the cuts were necessary to create what he called a "stronger" organization.
The supervisor for the Sears Hometown store said the decision made by corporate doesn't affect them because they are not a full retail location.
"currently this sears they carry a lot of your lawn and garden, some sporting stuff like kayaks," said Scott Ehmke, Hilltop Mall property manager. "They carry a tool line of tools and then of course your kitchen appliances. They're not going to be affected like the full retailer where you're talking clothing and other items like that."
The Sears Hometown store will fully open at the mall next week.
