Loads of Love gives free detergent to those in need
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. —
A local church is giving out free detergent and toilet paper to those in need.
The Messiah Lutheran Church in Grand Island held its first 'Loads of Love' event Sunday afternoon.
Courtney Berg, event organizer and youth director, said within the first 30 minutes they served 100 households.
She said community outreach is a big part of what they do.
"When you have a lower income-based household these are items you shouldn't have to worry about. You shouldn't have to worry about going to school and not having clean clothes. You shouldn't have to worry about those things and if that's one thing that we can help take off a parent's plate, we're happy to do that," Berg said.
The church hopes to hold this event again in November to help people out during the holidays.
They also hold clothing drives daily as well as free suppers every Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
They’re located at 122 w 7th St in Grand Island.
