A 23-year-old man will serve time in jail for a Grand Island bar fight in April.

Malachi Martinez was sentenced to 90 days in jail with credit for one day served and 60 months of probation after he pleaded no contest to possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person and possession of a controlled substance. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,500 by the Hall County Court.

Police were called to a downtown Grand Island bar in April, where a known felon was reported to have a gun in his waistband.

Capt. Jim Duering said Martinez is prohibited from having a firearm.

Before officers got there, reports say the 22-year-old was roughed up by some other men, who are also known to police.

Duering said, "Prior to our arrival, he was allegedly assaulted by Joseph and Joshua Thulin who struck him with both a pool ball and a glass bottle and took his gun from him."

Because all three men were in possession of the same gun at various points during the fight, they all faced gun charges.

Jospeh Thulin and Joshua Thulin were both arrested for the offense of second degree assault.

Joshua Thulin was sentenced in Hall County Court on Nov. 29.
