Police: North Platte man accidentally shot in the head
A man is recovering in the hospital after accidentally being shot in the head, according to the North Platte Police Department.
According to a press release, North Platte police responded to a call of a shooting at a home on the 1100 block of West 11th Street Tuesday evening.
Officers found an 18-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his forehead who was later taken to the hospital.
After talking to witnesses, officers determined that the victim was shot accidentally shot by Christian Vera, a relative of the victim.
Witnesses say Vera had been showing off the handgun to the victim when it discharged, and a bullet that hit him in the head.
Officers say the two were not fighting at the time of the incident.
Vera was found in an alleyway behind the residence with the handgun, he was taken into custody.
