MINDEN, Neb. -- One person is dead after an early morning head on collision on Highway 10.
The Buffalo County Sheriff's Office received a call just after 4:45 a.m. on Sunday of a crash on the Platte River bridge on Highway 10.
Authorities say the collision occurred on the Platte River bridge on Highway 10 just south of the Minden Interstate 80 interchange east of Kearney.
According to the preliminary investigation, a two-vehicle head on collision occurred involving a 2004 Chevrolet pickup which was driving southbound and a 1993 Chevrolet pickup which was driving northbound.
BCSO said both vehicles were totaled, and there were no passengers in either vehicle.
The collision caused a fire to the northbound vehicle.
The driver of the northbound pickup died at the scene and has not yet been identified, according to authorities.
BCSO said the driver of the southbound pickup was injured and transported to CHI Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
The area of the Platte River bridge on Highway 10 was closed for several hours during the investigation.
The Buffalo County Attorney's Office has ordered an autopsy.
Kearney Police Department, Kearney Volunteer Fire Department, the Nebraska Department of Transportation, CHI Good Samaritan paramedics and the Buffalo County Attorney's Office were all on scene.
