Police: Scammer convinces Burger King employee to send gift card info
Police say a Burger King employee spent more than $1,300 of the restaurant's nightly deposit after being scammed by a caller.
The Lincoln Police Department reported that the 21-year-old employee received a call Tuesday from an unknown man.
The employee said the caller claimed to be from the "Federal Bureau" and told the employee that because of recent thefts at the restaurant, she needed to take the nightly deposit, purchase gift cards, and give him the numbers over the phone.
Police said the man claimed this had to be done in order to keep the store open. The victim spent $1,313.68 on prepaid cards from multiple stores and provided the numbers to the man on the phone.
The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made.
